The Chingay @ Jurong Central on 19 February 2012 attracted more than 15,000 residents to witness for the first time, a street party along Jurong West Ave 1, opposite the Jurong Green CC. More than 350 performers, mainly residents of Jurong Central entertained the crowd while waiting for the floats to arrive. DPM Tharman Shanmugaratnam, SMS Grace Fu, MOS Halimah Yacob, Mr David Ong, Mr Desmond Lee and I joined the residents at about 8.20pm for the lighting up of the firecrackers. It was indeed an electrifying night!
I hope this “Jurong spirit” would continue to linger on and bind us together. The Budget 2012 unveiled by DPM Tharman is meant to transform our economy to one that rely on productivity for growth and at the same time, cultivate inclusiveness by helping the needy, elderly and disabled more. To this end, I am especially heartened by the efforts put in by the students of Fuhua Secondary School, Hua Yi Secondary School, Hong Kah Secondary School, Jurongville Secondary School and Jurong Primary School, who successfully raised funds and distributed hampers to more than 140 needy families in Jurong Central.
Moving forward, we have a few serious works cut out for us. Over the next couple months, many residents would have to exercise their rights to vote for Lift Upgrading Program (LUP), Home Improvement Program (HIP) and Neighbourhood Renewal Program (NRP) and engage in many other improvements as follows:
Zone A LUP (Blk 479, 482, 492, 495 & 498)
Actual polling from 9-12 Mar 2012
Zone C LUP & HIP (Blk 401-408)
Actual polling from 23-26 Mar 2012
Zone B & C NRP (Blk 409-422)
NRP Town hall meeting on 7 Apr 2012
Zone D New Multi-Storey Car Park (MSCP) Blk 372A
Early usage of part of the MSCP by Q1 2012
Zone E NRP (Blk 311-316)
NRP polling on 28 Apr 12
It is important that residents are engaged in all these improvement programme as this is your home, your neighbourhood.
Thank you and happy exploring our Jurong Central websites.
