We celebrated our 49th National Day on 2 August at the newly completed temporary car park in front of the NTUC FairPrice supermarket at Block 498 Jurong West Street 42. More than 4,000 residents joined the celebrations and watched the fabulous fireworks. Many more watched from the windows of their own flats nearby. If you enjoyed this spectacular event, do watch out for our Jurong Central SG50 celebrations next year!
Meanwhile, I have a couple of pieces of good news for you. Firstly, the LTA will be building lifts at both Lakeside and Chinese Garden MRT stations to make travelling easier for our pioneer generation and families with young children. Secondly, we have collaborated with a VWO to start a Youth Centre at Block 372 Jurong East where our young people can congregate to learn and play in a safe place after school.
As mentioned previously, building the hardware is one thing, building the “heartware” is another, and even more important. We hope that our Jurong Central can be a town of volunteers, a place where less able residents are helped by more able residents; a place where everyone chips in to make it a better place to live, work and play.
